Dozens of friends, family, sponsors and coaches came together for the inaugural Athletes of Excellence Dinner at the Olde White Barn on Phoenix Lake Road, celebrating local student-athletes and the bright future of sports in Tuolumne County.
YSF representatives thanked the community for its continued support and shared how the Foundation is making a lasting impact on youth sports.
The night honored four outstanding student-athletes—two from Sonora High School and two from Summerville High School—recognized not only for their performance on the field, but for their leadership, character and dedication.
Each athlete received a scholarship and shared their personal sports journey during a panel discussion that inspired the audience.
Words to Live By
• Olivia: “Make time for your people around you, and make time to enjoy life just as much as your sport. Keep moving and love your people.”
• Nessel: “Don’t let any limitations get in the way of your dreams. You can always make them possible if you work hard towards them.”
• Herrera: “Sports were made to be fun, so have fun. Enjoy the game, it’s not the end of the world if you lose. Go in with a good mindset, have fun and don’t take it too seriously.”
• Byington: “Know that you can turn your dreams into reality depending on your work ethic and how bad you want it. It’s all about having fun, and when you’re having fun it’s easier to work hard.”
Advice to the Next Generation
“Take the time for family, friends and school. The time for sports will come as you get older. Through it all, make a positive impact on your teammates and coaches.”
The YSF Athletes of Excellence Dinner marks the beginning of a new tradition honoring the heart, hustle and impact of Tuolumne County’s young athletes.
THANK YOU to our community for playing it forward!
